Botulinum Toxin

The main botulinum toxins are Allergan’s Botox from the United States, Ipsen’s Dysport from France, and Merz’s Xeomin from Germany. Other brands include Neuronox from South Korea and BTXA from Lanzhou in China. The most mainstream on the market are Botox and Dysport, which are also the botulinum toxins most commonly used in our center.

The main function of botulinum toxin is to relax muscles. When we make surprised expressions, horizontal lines appear on our forehead, known as forehead lines; when we frown, lines appear between our eyebrows; when we smile, crow’s feet appear at the corners of our eyes. These are what we call negative expression lines. Since these expression lines are not aesthetically pleasing, many of us dislike them, and botulinum toxin is the best way to remove them.

Some people have wider faces, or certain muscles are overdeveloped, such as the calves. Botulinum toxin can relax these muscles, making the face and calves slimmer.

Also, some people suffer from hyperhidrosis, which can even lead to body odor. Another function of botulinum toxin is to stop sweating in the areas where it is injected. Common areas for hyperhidrosis are the armpits, palms, and soles of the feet.
